Let me just start with the Fernandez Family! Oh how I love them! As you may remember, we have been teaching them for about 2 months now. The dad was inactive for 10 years and the mom and the kids aren't baptized. So we have had the blessing to be able to teach this family and help them gain the knowledge of becoming an eternal family. But a couple weeks ago I wrote about them and how they accepted the date for the 30th of May to be baptized if they felt ready. And as we can see, that feel through. She felt that she wasn’t ready and that it came up really fast. So we had a lesson with them this past Friday night and we had no idea what we needed to teach them. So Friday morning during studies, we decided that we could go over the baptism questions to see if someone is prepared to get baptized. We did that to see what their doubts were or why they didn’t feel ready. So we went along and asked them a bunch of questions that night. And honestly, I don’t think the baptism questions were for the mom, Hilda. I think we were meant to ask them for the Dad, Alesxandro. A few weeks ago we had a lesson about tithing and he did not agree with that commandment. There was nothing we could have done or said to change his mind. We left the lesson that night just being able to bare our testimonies and hope that the spirit and the Lord would do the rest. So Friday night we got to the tithing question and we were really hesitant to ask them because we knew what he said last time. So we asked what they understood about tithing and Alex said "you already know how I feel about that." And so I looked at Hermana Hilda to see what she had to say but then Hermano Alex said, "But!" and I have never loved that word more in my life. He said "But after we had that lesson that night I searched in the Bible, and even though I still don’t like it, I don’t want to disobey God, so I'll pay tithing." AHHHH We were so happy to hear those glorious words! I was trying my hardest not to smile and be super obvious about it but it was pretty hard. We had just seen a miracle! When we left that one night teaching tithing we were disappointed and we had no idea how he was going to change. There was nothing else we could do to get him to change his mind. And really we aren't here to change peoples minds, just allow the Spirit to testify to them. We were so grateful to our Heavenly Father for softening his heart. We saw a miracle on Friday night and I had never been so happy here in the mission.
But continuing on, and making the story even better! We decided to ask Hilda if she had prayed to God to ask and make a goal with Him for baptism. And she told us that she had prayed and that her and her son, Alexander, had decided to get baptized! To add on top of that miracle, they want to get baptized!! So we asked when they wanted to get baptized and she said next Saturday. That’s this week, the 6th. I am so happy to think that Hermano Alex will be able to baptize his wonderful family and that they will one day be an eternal family!
Me and my companion left Friday night stoked. I'm glad you all couldn’t see us that night, it was probably embarrassing how happy we were. We couldn’t stop smiling all night. Here's to Saturday the 6th of June!
This week we also were able to have a Zone Conference with Presidente McMullin and have an interview with him. I am so grateful for the wonderful leaders here to help guide us, and guide me in this important work, yet so hard. I have a love for this work and I hope that love can work through me every day as I try to give it all to the Lord. I can never repay Him for what he has given me, but I can give my will to Him and I know He will be able to bless me and the people here only if I give it to Him.
Well, there’s not too much more for this week. It was pretty rainy the whole week, pretty chilly and really muddy. Which meant boots everyday. Also yesterday was the 242nd Anniversary of Concepción and it was pretty crazy! There was a big parade in the morning so the church hours were changed to the afternoon. It was like the whole city was in the center of Concepción. We weren’t able to see much of it though.
Well, that’s all for me this week! Thanks for everything and I love you guys! Hope all is well!
